NHSC Equine Studies
PURSUE YOUR PASSION, LOVE YOUR CAREER
NHSC is the only tribal college in the nation offering a degree in Equine Studies. We offer specializations in Natural Horsemanship, and Equine Assisted Services. Student’s hands-on equine coursework takes place in a 150 x 250 heated indoor arena located at the Healing Horse Ranch, near Parshall, ND. Students have access to the arena during open riding times as well as the opportunity to participate in a myriad of equine events and activities offered at the ranch.
Students complete courses in modern methods of Natural Horsemanship, Equine Assisted Services, and horse care; many of which are transferable to the best four year Equine Degree programs. Additionally, our students study and honor the special cultural relationship between horses and tribes.
Students participate in and assist in hosting NHSC sponsored equine events, including horsemanship seminars with some of the country’s top equine clinicians, barrel racing series, horse culture events, kids horse fun days, and weekly Therapeutic Riding sessions for adults and children with disabilities and behavioral challenges.
Fort Berthold has a rich history of relationship with the land, people, and animals through their renowned bottomland gardens and horse culture. The NHSC Equine Studies program strives to maintain and honor these tradition through study of Natural Horsemanship and wellness, which are both an aspect of MHA Nation culture and of the ranching and rodeo heritage of the region. Natural Horsemanship is all about relationships, we therefore invite you to be a part of our family and heritage while you pursue your passion.
