Certificate of Completion: Child Development Associate (CDA)

A CDA is used primarily for paraprofessional teacher’s aide or independent business owners to comply with state licensure requirements.

Program Outcomes:

  • The candidate will begin to demonstrate an understanding of advancing positive, safe, healthy, and creative learning in an early childhood setting, a classroom, and at home.
  • The candidate will begin to demonstrate an understanding of developmental stages of children from pre-birth to age 8.
  • Successful completion of the CDA may encourage the student to pursue additional coursework in the Early Childhood Education program.The Early Childhood Education program is designed to prepare candidates for employment in various human services positions, such as Head Start teacher or assistant teacher, parent educator, preschool teacher, teacher’s aide, social services paraprofessional, and/or independent business owner.  The main goal of the Early Childhood certification is to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in working with children in a variety of settings. The CDA can be the first step in the certification process and is used primarily for paraprofessional teacher’s aide or independent business owners to comply with state licensure requirements.
